How to Revise Class 10 Science Without Running Out of Time

Class 10 Science is three subjects wearing one name, and the mistake most students make is revising all three the same way.

Physics — practise, do not read

Physics marks come from numericals and from a handful of diagrams. Reading the chapter again does almost nothing; the concepts are few and you already know them.

Work problems. Light and Electricity between them carry a large share of the paper, and both are almost entirely about applying two or three formulas correctly under time pressure. Draw every ray diagram by hand at least five times until the construction is automatic.

Chemistry — equations and exceptions

Chemistry rewards memory more honestly than the other two. Balanced equations, reaction types, the reactivity series, the tests that distinguish one gas from another.

Make one page per chapter containing only the equations and the exceptions, and revise that page, not the chapter. The textbook prose around the equations is what you needed the first time you learned it; in revision it just slows you down.

Biology — the vocabulary is the subject

Biology questions are usually answerable if you can use the right word, and unanswerable if you cannot. Life Processes, Control and Coordination and Heredity are dense with terms that look similar and mean different things.

Revise by writing definitions from memory and checking them, rather than by reading. Diagrams matter here too — a labelled diagram often carries the full marks on its own.

Splitting your time

Do not give the three equal time. Give the most time to the one where you are losing the most marks, which is rarely the one you find least interesting.

Take one timed paper first and let the result decide the split. Preparation guided by a mark sheet beats preparation guided by a feeling every time.
